Judd Overton grew up photographing the harsh red landscape and limitless horizons of central Australia. Since graduating from AFTRS in 2004, he has shot four feature films including the much applauded Chaplin-esque black and white silent comedy Dr Plonk for acclaimed Australian director Rolf de Heer, which premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.
He has won several Australian Cinematographers Society (ACS) awards, as well as securing sponsorship grants from international companies including Kodak, Panavision and EFilm.
Judd has worked on award winning short films including The Saviour [dir. Peter Templeman] which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Short Film; The Mouse That Ate My Brain [dir. Philip Middleton] which won the Special Jury Prize at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival; and Swing [dir. Christopher Houghton], which won the Adelaide Film Festival Audience Award and Best Film at the St Kilda Film Festival 2007.
He has just returned from the 2010 Berlin Film Festival where his short film Franswa Sharl [dir. Hannah Hilliard] – winner of the Audience Award at Flickerfest – won the coveted Crystal Bear for Best Short Film.
